In January 2019, Sugar Club Phuket hosted arguably America’s hottest Hip Hop export today, Rae Sremmurd.
This was more than a high-spirited stop-off on a sun-kissed island, it represents a seminal moment in the relentless march
of the Hip Hop genre that continues to crush popular markets globally, fusing an inspired connection between East & West.
Brothers Swae Lee & Slim Jxmmy made the most of their visit to Thailand’s sea-side jewel- rumoured to be working on a new album at
their resort, they found time to celebrate both Jxmmy’s birthday (he “caked” himself in prankster fashion) and Swae’s fresh release
(ranking #1 on Billboard)aboard an exclusive, luxury yacht-party cruising the Andaman.
On the big night, dense crowds lined up outside our sold-out club in anticipation, while the atmosphere surrounding
the stage surged to flash-point as the superstars took time for selfies & banter with devoted supporters.
Mid-way through the show, Thai fans handed a live sunflower to Swae Lee during his Billboard hit, “Sunflower”. Spontaneously fixing it in his hair,
he delighted the crowd further by performing the rest of the show with it; later tweeting. “It’s a look; I want 10,000 sunflowers at the shows”.
With the entire club whipped into frenzy by Swae Lee and chanting “SremmLife!”, the duo effortlessly transitioning into a fresh rendition of
“Guatemala” from their latest album SR3MM. Predictably, the hourlong performance wasn’t enough, but still the brothers didn’t disappoint and the
floor exploded again as they returned to the stage for a 20 minute encore.
